Community Service

Vision
As the first school in the Midlands to include community service in its graduation requirements, Heathwood will continue to build on its strong history of civic responsibility, providing students with purposeful service opportunities that help them grow personally and improve the quality of life in the greater community.

Mission
The Community Service Program manifests the school's commitment to develop mature citizenship in its students. The program imparts a responsibility for service to the community and promotes the value of active service not only for the recipient, but also for the donor (or volunteer). Finally, the program enhances Heathwood Hall's ability to give students the self-confidence and strength of character to marry wisdom and understanding with compassion.

Program Goals

  • Broaden students' perspectives and help them see themselves as part of a larger community
  • Enhance students’ awareness of their capacity to help others who are in need
  • Learn about service organizations in the Midlands
  • Encourage students to seriously consider some of the social, educational, and political issues that confront community and government leaders.
