Admission Application process
The admission process at Heathwood Hall begins with a completed application. All applicants then take the other required steps in the admission process as determined by their ages and the grades they are entering. Some families may be asked to provide additional information if this is necessary for the school to make an informed decision. Parents are invited at any point in the process to tour the campus and ask questions.
STEP 1: Application
The application form officially begins the admission process for each child. Applications may be submitted months or years in advance and are kept on file until the fall before the applicant is slated to begin school at Heathwood Hall. Early each fall, the admission office contacts families who have submitted applications to schedule the remaining steps in the admission process.
STEP 2: Records and Transcripts
Parents assist the admission office in collecting grades, student transcripts, attendance records, teacher recommendations and other information for students applying to grades 2-12. The school also may contact teachers of young children applying to early childhood classes to help further understand each child’s prior school experience and individual gifts. Applicants to grades 5-12 may be required to submit a writing sample in support of their application.
STEP 3: Visit/readiness screening/entrance testing (Early Fall – May)
Candidates spend part of a school morning (nursery school through kindergarten) or an entire school day with their current age group/grade. Heathwood teachers get to know each candidate, observing cognitive, physical and social development. Entrance testing is required for all applicants to grades 1 -12 helping to determine their levels of academic ability and achievement. Testing is often administered here on campus if acceptable testing is not available as part of the applicant’s current record.
STEP 4: Admission decision
An admission committee of administrators and teachers carefully considers offering enrollment to each student candidate. Young people who have clearly demonstrated the ability to succeed as citizens and students at Heathwood Hall are invited to enroll. Decisions then are communicated to each candidate’s family, with enrollment forms and information mailed to those candidates who are invited to enroll.
