Columbia Connections: WACH News Anchor Visits 8th Grade Journalism Students

Wednesday, September 6, 2017

What’s a “breaking” news story, and how do you cover it? What do you do when you make an embarrassing mistake at work—and you happen to be on live TV?

Those are just a couple of the questions WACH Fox News Anchor and Managing Editor Brian McConchie answered when he spoke to Heathwood’s 8th grade journalism class on September 6. McConchie, who anchors the 10 p.m. news at WACH, also described how he became interested in journalism and what his job entails on a daily basis.

Those details about the nuts and bolts of McConchie’s job were especially relevant to the students, who, along with their teachers, Emily Hodges and Chris McDuffie, are beginning work on segments they intend to create for their upcoming news show.

Stay tuned to see what they come up with—and thank you to Mr. McConchie for sharing his years of accumulated wisdom with a group of students who are just beginning to learn about his field!
