Heathwood Hall was thrilled to host the 2nd Annual Deck the Hall 5K Cross Country Race on Saturday, December 10, 2011 to benefit Harvest Hope Food Bank! In addition to the 5K, a Reindeer Fun Run was also held for children 10 and under. Select vendors were also on hand selling holiday goodies and other items.

5K Cross Country Race

Participants will enjoy a beautiful walk/run on the Heathwood Hall cross country trail near the banks of the Congaree River, through the woods and around corn fields. The trail is a double loop and is flat except for a short, steep downhill and a single gentle uphill. The terrain is all grass and packed dirt. Cross the finish line through an archway of trees before entering the chute between the football and baseball fields. The trail will be marked with flags and markers to assist you in getting the most out of your run/walk. In addition, officials will be posted along the trail in case of emergency.

Medals will be awarded to the top 10 overall finishers and cash prizes will be given for the top three male and female overall finishers. The top three winners in each age category will also receive a prize.

Age groups for this race are:
10 and under 25-29 45-49
10-13 30-34 50-54
14-18 35-39 55-59
19-24 40-44 60+

Entry Fee: $25 before December 1 // $30 after December 1 and on-site

Packet pick-up will take place the morning of the race beginning at 7:00 a.m.

Reindeer Fun Run

The 5K is not the only fun thing to do at Deck the Hall! Kids 10 and under and invited to enter the Reindeer Fun Run! The children will enjoy special activities and prizes for their participation. Check back for more details……

about Harvest Hope and Heathwood Hall

Harvest Hope Food Bank provides emergency food to suffering and hungry individuals and families across 20 counties in South Carolina. Harvest Hope is by far the largest food bank in South Carolina and feeds more hungry people in our state than any other charity organization. Harvest Hope depends on the enormous generosity and compassionate spirit of many individuals, civic groups, churches and businesses in our community to raise funds and donate food to help us feed the hungry in South Carolina

Heathwood Hall has proven their dedication to fighting hunger in the community by serving as a partner for Harvest Hope on numerous food drives and fundraisers. Deck the Hall is one of the many events Heathwood Hall holds for Harvest Hope which will result in the gift of food provided to our neighbors in need.

Deck the Hall is being held just two weeks before Christmas, so it is the perfect time to pick up those last minute gifts for teachers or other special people in your life. To help with this, organizers of the event are inviting vendors to purchase a booth and sell holiday goodies, gifts, and more during the hours of 8:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. You won't want to miss out!

Spectators

Coming out to cheer on a friend or loved one? There will be plenty for you to do while they run/walk the trail! Browse through vendor booths, grab a cup of coffee and listen to the entertaining vocals of Men in Plaid. Be sure to stick around to watch the Reindeer Fun Run, too!

General Information

Where is Heathwood Hall located?  3000 South Beltline Boulevard at the intersection of Bluff and Heathwood Hall Road near I-77. 

What does it cost to participate?
5K                           $25 before December 1, 2011

*NOTE:  The Kids Fun Run will begin immediately following the finish of the last runner.  The Awards Ceremony will take place immediately following the Kids Fun Run.

Will there be awards given? YES!  Cash prizes will be awarded to the top three overall male and female winners.  In addition, prizes will be awarded to the top three finishers in each age category for male and female.  Kids who participate in the Reindeer Fun Run will also receive a special prize.

Where should I park?  Heathwood has ample parking for all participants and spectators.

Will there be a place to store keys? YES!  We will have a key valet for your convenience.

When is packet pickup?  You may pick up your race packet the day of the event NOT BEFORE.

What time should I arrive?  In order to have ample time to get parked, pick up your packet, warm up, etc. we recommend arriving by 8:00 am.

When will race results be posted?  No later than Thursday, December 15 at 5:00pm

Will race photos be available for purchase online?  YES!  Photos will available for viewing and purchase within 10 days of the event.

Is this race benefitting a charity?  YES!  Harvest Hope Food Bank

Can we bring canned goods to donate?  YES!  Harvest Hope will have collection bins onsite.

What is there to do for spectators while family/friends are running?  We will have vendors onsite selling goodies and passing out information along with performances by some of Heathwood’s most talented students.  Refreshments including coffee, hot chocolate and breakfast items will be for sale as well.

Registration

Can I register and pay online with a credit card?  YES!  Online registration will be available until Friday, December 2 at 5:00pm.  After that you must register onsite.

Is there a fee to register online?  YES!  $2

Can I mail in my registration and pay with a check? YES!  Simply download the registration form, complete it and mail it along with payment to:

Can I register onsite the day of the event? YES!  You may register onsite and pay with cash or check but you will not be guaranteed a race shirt.

What do I get with my registration? A race bag with goodies from our sponsors, bib #, and race tshirt (if you registered before Friday, December 3)

What happens if I cannot participate after I have registered?  You will be able to come by and pick up your race packet the week after the race.  Unfortunately, there will be no refunds.

 

Race Rules

Who can participate? Anyone 10 and up is eligible to participate in the 5K.  Minors must have a parent’s permission.  Anyone 10 and younger is eligible to participate in the Reindeer Fun Run.

Can you choose to walk the trail instead of run?  YES!  Absolutely!

Are iPods or other MP3 players allowed?  YES! 

Are strollers allowed? YES!  BUT… remember, this is a CROSS COUNTRY TRAIL with rough terrain (not paved) so only bring strollers that are suitable for that type of terrain.

Are dogs allowed? YES!  As long as they are kept on a leash at ALL TIMES.

Are bikes allowed? NO – sorry.  This is a run/walk, not a ride.

Are wheelchairs able to navigate the trail?  No

Do I have to sign a release in order to participate?  YES!  Every runner/walker must have a signed release on file before they will be given a bib number and allowed to participate.
