50th Anniversary Celebration |
| Capping a series of school-year events celebrating "50 Years of Changing Lives," students, teachers, parents, alumni, grandparents and friends of Heathwood Hall Episcopal School staged a gala finale on Friday, May 3. The day's festivities also served notice that the School plans to continue its tradition of excellence in education into the next half century. While the day included many historic remembrances- including performances, a parade, displays of school memorabilia, a Maypole dance and art exhibit - the School also used the occasion to mark a giant leap forward for its 5th-8th grade programs. Former headmistresses Susan Gibbes Robinson and Elsie Lamar -- and former headmaster Bob Shirley -- joined current head Steve Hickman at the official groundbreaking ceremony for a new $4 million intermediate/middle school building: a 30,000 square-foot structure scheduled for completion in January 2003. |
