8th Grade Trip to Washington DC |

| Heathwood Hall eighth graders traveled to Washington, D.C. in early March. Their four-day trip to our nation's capital capped an intensive study of American culture and beliefs. Throughout their eighth-grade year, students at Heathwood explore U.S. culture and beliefs and then compare them to those of China, India and several African countries. In Washington, cultural lessons took a culinary twist, as students enjoyed traditional meals from the U.S., China and India. Highlights of the trip were numerous, including meetings with Senator Strom Thurmond and U.S. Representative Joe Wilson. Students also did plenty of sightseeing, taking in landmarks such as Mount Vernon, the National Mall, Washington National Cathedral, Presidential and war monuments and memorials, the Air and Space Museum, the U.S. Capitol Building, The White House, Kennedy Center and Arlington National Cemetery. One of the most memorable sights visited was the Pentagon, where repairs from the September 11 attack continue today. Below are some snapshots of this year's trip. |
