8th Grade Trip to Washington, DC

The 8th grade enjoyed their annual class trip during Winterim week, March 9-12, 2004. The trip helps enrich classroom lessons in art, history, culture, government and politics, with students and their teacher-chaperones visiting Mount Vernon, Va and sites throughout the Washington, DC area. In Washington, students were privileged to visit with Congressman Joe Wilson (R-SC) and they toured the US Capitol Building, the White House (some students got to see the President boarding his helicopter!), Smithsonian Museums, National Cathedral, Holocaust Museum, and other famous monuments. The group savored another Washington tradition -- the huge buffet lunch at Charlie Chaing’s -- and later dined at famous Union Station. They experienced an NHL hockey match (Capitals vs. Buffalo Sabres) and on the last night of their trip relaxed on a long dinner cruise down the Potomac. Before departing for home, 8th graders also witnessed the solemn and powerful Changing of the Guard at Arlington National Cemetery. We hope you enjoy these pictures from the 8th grade's week of fun and learning in our nation's capital.
