Football Class
AAA State
Championship Game

| On November 21, the Highlander football team traveled to The Citadel in Charleston for the SCISA Class AAA state championship game against Wilson Hall. Though the Barons pulled out a 34-32 win, the hundreds of Heathwood Hall supporters who made the trip were treated to one of the most exciting games in school history. Quarterback Brandon Gantt, a sophomore, threw for more than 300 yards, including 3 touchdown strikes to junior J.D. Whalen and a Hail Mary pass to junior Andy Shields that pulled the Highlanders within 2 points as time expired in the game. A two-point conversion attempt to tie the game literally came up an inch short, but no one in attendance left feeling short-changed after a remarkable effort by Heathwood's players and coaches.
