4th Grade Invention Convention

For the past seven years, the fourth grade has participated in the Invent America national invention contest. The competition is culminating activity of the Lower School Thinking Skills Program, requiring fourth graders to develop novel products or processes.
This year’s overall winner was Gabriel Brandner for his TWS (Tsunami Warning System). Troubled by the loss of life with the recent Tsunami in Southeast Asia, Gabriel was intrigued that so few animals were killed in the disaster. He researched the event and contacted a University of Okalahoma professor who has been studying how animals apparently have the ability to sense approaching Tsunamis. Gabriel then developed a device that could be placed on several monkeys to monitor their movements. If the monkeys suddenly began moving inland to escape a Tsunami, a satellite would pick up the information and warn people in that area, potentially saving thousands of lives. Gabriel will represent the school in the national Invent America contest.  Congratulations to Gabrial and all the fourth graders for creating so many fascinating inventions!
