| In conjunction with their study of contemporary American History, eighth graders visited The Columbia Museum of Art, viewing modern and contemporary work. The students then completed their own contemporary art form, "Mail Art" -- a joint project with Graland School in Denver, Colorado. Heathwood students made postcards that were divided into six squares, added designs to two of the squares, and then mailed the cards to Graland where different classes completed the remaining squares. After mailing them back to Heathwood, the finished cards were arranged and photographed so that digital images could be shared with Graland students via email. The Heathwood students have enjoyed corresponding literally and visually with their "Mail Art" postcards. |
