Fall Semester Full of Growth and Magic for Fifth Graders

| This year's fifth grade established itself as a community of learners and demonstrated remarkable growth through the first several weeks of the fall semester. In their study of the Age of Exploration, students developed new skills and knowledge in art, writing, history, social studies, geography, public speaking and service to others. They wrote and presented persuasive speeches for one another. They completed the integrated "Growing with Gourds” project (see more on the related Heathwood Happenings web page). Before the Thanksgiving holidays, Humanities students assembled to share a bowl of soup, piece of bread, and water to help students better understand the plight of those who are hungry and need their help. Prayers of Thanksgiving were written by the students, who expressed beautifully their understanding of the call to serve their fellow man. |
