Heathwood’s boys’ varsity basketball team, fresh off of their second consecutive regular-season region championship, gained even more momentum entering this week’s SCISA state playoffs with a Feb. 16 region tournament championship victory over Hammond.  The two teams served up another nail-biter at the Skyhawks' gym, with Heathwood ultimately posting their 15th win of the season.  Though Hammond took both regular-season contests by narrow margins, the Highlanders would not be denied the tournament's top prize as senior Odist Harmon, junior James Rogers and sophomore Brett Whalen combined to score 29 of Heathwood’s 55 points.

Seniors Odist Harmon, Rhodes Amaker and Brandon Gantt were selected to the All Region and All Tournament teams, and Brandon Gantt was named the MVP of the tournament.

The Highlanders begin play in the state tournament on Saturday, February 25th. They will play St. Joseph's at 4:00 in Sumter at Wilson Hall.
