Twelve Heathwood Hall Upper School students participated in the first annual joint festival of the Palmetto Dramatic Association and South Carolina Thespians at Converse College in Spartanburg, SC, February 17-19, 2006. These students included: Colleen Francis, Hunter Glenn, Megha Penmetsa, Rachel Wolf, Jennifer Blencowe, Bakari Lebby, Abbie McCoy, Bobby Barton, Richard Amaker, Erica Richardson, Peyton Bryant, and Suzanne Carney.

From the SC Thespians component of the weekend, Hunter Glenn was recognized as the state winner in Solo Mime, and Erica Richardson and Jennifer Blencowe advanced to the final round in Duet Acting (the first Heathwood students to do so at this particular festival).

From the Palmetto Dramatic Association, Erica Richardson was honored with 1st Place for Playwriting. Two play performances presented by Heathwood students received honorable mention ratings. The entire Heathwood group was honored with the William and Mary Long Spirit Award. This award, which is given to the school that best demonstrates the supportive spirit of the festival, is presented in honor of the educators who founded the Palmetto Dramatic Association in 1955. Out of 19 schools participating this year, Heathwood was chosen for this award.
