HEATHWOOD WINS STATE SPELLING BEE
Heathwood is the 2006 SCISA Spelling Bee Champion. The team victory began with several standout performances by individual students. Morgan Yeatts (3rd grade) and Avnika Amin (8th grade) placed 1st in their grade levels at the state competition held 15 February. Also competing for Heathwood at the state level were MacKenzie Sumwalt (6th grade) and Haransh Singh (4th grade).

Team points earned at January’s regional spelling bee were combined with scores at the state bee to calculate each team’s final score. All of the following Heathwood students contributed to the winning total for the Highlanders:

3rd grade - Sunaina Kapur, Mary Morgan Yeatts

4th grade - Charlotte Starnes, Haransh Singh

5th grade - Elliot Smith

6th grade - MacKenzie Sumwalt, Carson Gaffney

7th grade - Sanchit Kapur, Corey Wood

8th grade - Avnika Amin, Lauren Armstrong

Congratulations to these students for a winning effort!
