Dr. Martin Luther King Day of Service

In August 2008 the Lee County School District received an AmeriCorps grant that is creating opportunities to strengthen the school community through service and volunteering. The grant has allowed the school district to secure the services of 28 Lee Central High School seniors, who are providing tutoring and mentoring to younger students in the area. On Monday, January 19th fourteen Heathwood Hall upper school students joined the 28 Lee Central students in celebration of the work of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. The Lee Central and Heathwood students had breakfast together before participating in a MLK walk at Dennis Memorial Park in Bishopville. After the walk, the students volunteered at a community cleanup at Bishopville Primary School and Dennis Intermediate School.
