Announcing the Meyer Technology Initiative

Heathwood Hall is proud to announce the establishment of the Meyer Technology Initiative, created for the purpose of building a progressive computer science curriculum that will serve to enhance our current offerings.

Thanks to the generosity of Heathwood Hall alumnus Austin Meyer, this gracious multi-year donation to Heathwood will help our students in a multitude of ways for years to come.

The first year of the initiative will be marked by the addition of a computer science class in the Upper School, where students will engage the principles of computer science within the context of programming for mobile devices such as iPods, iPhones, and iPads.

This fantastic opportunity opens the doors for students to explore computer programming while learning in a project-based curriculum with the flexibility to grow and adapt to the quickly changing trends in computer science. It will also allow students to make connections between the principles of computer science, modern application development, and real world practice.

Austin’s affinity for Heathwood Hall is the result of the tremendous personal success he has had with the development of his industry-leading flight simulation software, X-Plane. In fact, his expertise in Computer Science is firmly rooted in his time at Heathwood Hall working as a student with Mr. Bill Cherry, our Director of Technology.

We are also pleased to announce that long-time Heathwood Hall educator and Technology Specialist, Tom Simpson, will develop the computer science curriculum. In the coming years, we look forward to the possibilities that the Meyer Technology Initiative and Tom Simpson will bring to our students.

Heathwood Hall is incredibly grateful to Austin Meyer for his generosity, passion, and the excitement he brings to our school.
