Lady Highlanders Win Regional Cross Country Title!
The Heathwood Hall Lady Highlanders’ cross country team is having a tremendous season, finishing in the top three spots in 8 of 9 cross country meets.
The top three finishes include firsts in the Skyhawk Invitational, the Coaches Classic, the Ben Lippen Invitational, the Highlander Invitational, and most recently the SCISA regional 1-AAA Championship.
At the 48-team Coaches Classic championship division, the Lady Highlanders held off second-place finisher Dutch Fork and became the first Midlands area school to win a Coaches Classic in over eight years.
After finishing as runner up by one point at last year’s region championship, the Lady Highlanders secured this year’s title by placing four runners in the top 10 and seven in the top 16.
Team captain Brooke Grice has led the way all season for Heathwood and has established a new 5000 meter school record. Her time of 18:45 meets the Milesplit.com second team national elite standard and ranks her 9th in the state of South Carolina among public and private school female runners. Along with Grice, Sydney Ellen, Ellie Ridley, Harriet Rogers, Kate Nassab, Madison Mason, Rachael Whittaker, and Emmye Mullins have combined to give Heathwood one of the most competitive cross country teams in the state.
As they prepare for the state championship, the Lady Highlanders are the top-ranked team in SCISA class 1-AAA and for the first time in school history ranked among the top 10 teams in the state overall coaches’ polls (10th).
