SCUBA Diving Adventure in the Bahamas

Divers travel the Bahamas aboard a 65-foot sloop with bunk accommodations during a trip that allows for 5 full days of diving and other ocean adventure. The dive trip is accompanied by two PADI certified diving instructors, including Lucy Krieling from Columbia Scuba,LLC., who will help choose the most exciting dives. In addition, the trip includes opportunities for sailing, sea kayaking and a variety of other exciting open water activities.

PADI Open Water Dive Certification

This trip is open to participants (students and adults) who are certified open water divers. Individuals who have not already completed their Open Water Dive certification may complete the open water dives on this trip. Confined water dives and classroom sessions should be completed prior to the trip.
Open water certified divers who wish to pursue an Advanced Open Water certification and/or participate in any number of specialty diver courses (like Fish ID, Digital Underwater Photographer, Night Diver...) may do so.

Scientific Research Opportunity

An opportunity exists to become involved with scientific research supported by the National Geographic Society and the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Association (NOAA). Students have an opportunity to become involved in the Lion Fish Project and their research will help shed light on how these beautiful but invasive species from the Pacific Ocean are impacting reefs and other aquatic habitats in the Atlantic.

National Geographic Diver

Students who wish can pursue certification as a National Geographic Diver. This prestigious certification signifies that divers have the skills and knowledge of a PADI diver plus increased buoyancy control and observation skills. There are 4 steps needed to acquire Nat Geo certification. Divers must:

Complete a knowledge review
Demonstrate the ability to hover in 3 different positions
Complete a dive exploration project
And, either demonstrate advanced navigation skills or locate and identify a variety of aquatic plant and animal species

The Nat Geo certification fee is not included in the cost of the trip. Participants who wish to pursue their Nat Geo certification must pay the Nat Geo fee for this opportunity.
