Rip Blackstone is SCISA Teacher of the Year

Monday, May 2, 2016

Heathwood Hall math teacher Rip Blackstone has been named 2015-2016 South Carolina Independent School Association (SCISA) High School Teacher of the Year. He is the 11th Heathwood teacher to win SCISA Teacher of the Year since 2001.

In 25 years at Heathwood, Mr. Blackstone has taught every math course offered in the Middle and Upper Schools, has served as football, basketball, baseball, softball, and golf coach, and has sponsored the Honor Council and the math team. He currently serves as Math Department Chair and as one of two Upper School Deans of Students.

Upper School Head George Scouten says Mr. Blackstone has changed the lives of generations of Heathwood students: “Though Rip often talks about the benefits he derives from teaching, we know that the biggest beneficiaries are his students, colleagues, and others who are touched by his intelligence, passion, humor, and love for Heathwood Hall.”
