Upper School Drama Students Perform at National Festival

Friday, June 30, 2017

Fifteen Heathwood Hall students traveled to Lincoln, Nebraska to present their award winning one-act play at the International Thespian Festival.  The drama students, accompanied by Drama Teacher E.G. Engle, were selected to present their play, Dark Road, based on their performance at the South Carolina Drama Festival.  Their state performance earned the Chapter Select designation, qualifying them to perform in the national festival.

Dark Road, written by Laura Lundgren Smith, is the story of two sister who went in separate ways.  One chose to resist the ways of Nazi Germany, the other followed the Dark Road until she was consumed by the evils of Nazi Germany.  The performance was exceptional and received a standing ovation from the many thespians who attended the performance.

The International Thespian Festival takes place every year at the University of Nebraska.  The week-long festival is a showcase for high school theater productions and an incredible learning opportunity featuring an extensive catalog of workshops and performances for the aspiring actors.

Congratulations to E.G. Engle and the cast of Dark Road.
