April Volunteer Spotlight: Lydia Bailey-Padgett

Thursday, April 20, 2017

We at Heathwood are deeply grateful to the many parents and friends who share their time and talents with us so generously as volunteers and whose work has a significant impact on the school. So we're inviting Heathwood parents and members of our faculty and staff to shine a spotlight on volunteers for whom they are particularly thankful.

If you'd like to nominate a deserving member of the Heathwood community to be featured in the Volunteer Spotlight, contact Director of Communications Leslie Haynsworth at haynsworthl@heathwood.org.

Volunteers are the Heart of the Library

“Hello, Liam’s mom!” call the 4-year-olds on their way to the circulation desk.  They turn to find their classmate.  “Liam, there’s your mom!”  Liam ducks his head a little bit to hide a smile and puts his book on the desk to be checked in.  He’s playing it cool, but anyone can tell he’s pleased to see his mom at the library.

Lydia Bailey-Padgett has been volunteering in the library since August, 2009.  Despite a busy teaching schedule in the Psychology department at Midlands Tech, home life with husband Ken and two children (Liam, EC4s and Bailey, 5th), and steady involvement in HPA, she comes to the library faithfully nearly every week, helping with everything from story times to checking out books, to creating displays, to shelving (and shelving, and shelving!).  Lydia is a tireless supporter of the library and of Heathwood, and her presence adds tremendously to our library program and our community.

Thank you to Lydia and all the other volunteers who help Heathwood students explore great books and develop a love of reading!
