Meet the Teachers




Mattie Amsler |

Mattie is a senior at University of South Carolina studying Early Childhood Education. Mattie grew up in Allentown, Pennsylvania and recently spent her summers there as a nanny and caregiver. Mattie is excited for the opportunity to work with young children and bring her passion for young children to our early childhood classrooms!


Morgan Arnette |

Morgan is an Early Childhood Education major at the University of South Carolina.  Her favorite thing about Heathwood is the caring supportive community.  In her spare time she loves to read, paint and hangout with friends.


Grace Baker |

Grace is originally from Tampa, Florida. She went to Sewanee: The University of the South where she studied French. Grace has spent many summers as both a camper and staff member at Camp Ton-A-Wandah in Hendersonville, NC. When Grace is not at Heathwood, she enjoys spending time with friends and exploring Columbia. Grace loves AE and Heathwood because she loves seeing all the friendly faces and getting to see students learn and grow.


Taylor Barber |

Taylor is a senior at USC studying Early Childhood Education. She grew up in Blythwood, SC. Taylor has played three years of collegiate soccer at UNC-Ashville.  She is the oldest of five siblings and can't imagine life without them! When Taylor is not at Heathwood or with her family, she could probably be found shopping. 


Grace Bruffey |

Grace is a sophomore at the University of South Carolina studying Criminology and Spanish. She grew up in both Cincinnati, OH and Charlotte, NC, and has spent the last 7 years working in childcare. Grace loves working in AE because she absolutely adores kids. When she’s not at Heathwood, she’s probably studying or running.


Nicole Cooper |

Nicole is currently a Junior at the University of South Carolina studying Exercise Science. She grew up in Waxhaw, NC. When she's not at Heathwood, she's usually spending her time studying, hanging out with friends, or volunteering at Lexington Medical Center. She loves working in AE because she loves being able to play with all of the amazing kids.


Patti Daley |

Patti attends AC Flora High School. She loves all the kids at Heathwood and playing various games with them. She loves how kind the parents and kids are. In her spare time she likes to spend time with her family and friends. 

Mallory Durig |

Mallory is a junior at the University of South Carolina where she studies social work. She is originally from Blythewood, SC. When Malory is not at Heathwood, she enjoys spending time with friends and shopping. Mallory loves working in AE at Heathwood because she loves all the kids and their families.


Kayla McClary |

Kayla is currently a senior at the University of South Carolina, studying Elementary Education. She has studied the Reggio Emilia teaching methods abroad in Italy where they originated. Kayla is originally from Lexington, SC and enjoys playing frisbee, going to USC football games, and eating pizza. Kayla is currently doing her student teaching, but will be excited to join us for the summer.


Dasani Morris |


Caroline O'Looney |

Caroline O’Looney is a senior at the University of South Carolina and is studying Public Relations. In her spare time, she is a marketing intern for an office at the University, spends time with friends and trying new restaurants around Columbia. Caroline loves being a part of a community that is much like her own K-12 program in Memphis, one that values academics, athletics, and character development.

Kassie Netherland |

Kassie is a senior studying Exercise Science at University of South Carolina. She is originally from West Virginia and enjoys the warm winters of South Carolina. When Kassie is not at Heathwood, she is playing with her golden retriever, volunteering, or studying for school. Kassie loves Heathwood because she loves working with kids.


Elizabeth Nye |

Elizabeth is a senior at the University of South Carolina, studying Finance and Ecomnomics. After graduation she will be working as a Financial Analyst at Wells Fargo.  She has been working at Heathwood Hall for 3 years and has enjoyed watcing the kids grow.  In her free time she loves spending time outdoors, playing golf and trying new restaurants. 


Brooke Owensby |


Summers Poteat

Summers attends AC Flora High School. She loves spending time and playing with all the kids at Heathwood. In her spare time, she enjoys hanging out with her friends and family while also playing Lacrosse for the Flora team.


Meredith Rashley

Meredith attends AC Flora High School. She said working at Heathwood brings her so much joy everyday.  "Watching the kids grow, helping them with homework and bringing them a little bit of happiness each day is the most rewarding part of this job."   In her spare time, she loves spending time with family and friends, working out and babysitting!


Kristen Shannon |

Kristen is a current freshman at USC studying nursing. She is originally from St. Matthews, SC where she attended Calhoun Academy. When Kristen is not spending time at Heathwood, she enjoys spending time with her sorority sisters and attending Carolina sporting events. Kristen loves helping out with AE because time time with kids is soothing and rewarding for her! 


Lauren Spencer |


Mary Stack Summers |

Mary Stack is a sophomore at Midlands Technical College and plans to transfer to the University of South Carolina. She goes by the double name Mary Stack. She is from Orangeburg, SC. She enjoys traveling and spending time with friends and family. Mary Stack enjoys spending time with the sweet kids! 



Carlie is a Public Health major with a minor in linguistics from Sycamore, SC. She said she loves being at Heathwood because it is a close knit family and is always so welcoming!  In my spare time I enjoy going to the beach and hanging with friends!


Dillon Ulmer |

Dillon is a junior at the University of South Carolina pursuing a degree in Business. He comes to us from the Calhoun Academy in St. Matthew’s, SC where he was the recipient of the senior class citizenship award. In addition to teaching in Afternoon Express, Dillon has worked as a substitute teacher at Heathwood as well as served as a lead counselor in Heathwood's summer camps.  He will be serving as our Interim Summer Director.


Marietta Wickham |

Marietta is a sophomore at USC studying retail with a minor in Spanish. She is from Richmond, Virginia. When Marietta is not at Heathwood or doing work for school, she enjoys hanging out with friends, playing tennis, and playing with her kitten. Marietta loves AE because she enjoys getting to play with the super sweet and cute kids! 


Mary Ann Wright |

Mary Ann is an alumna of Heathwood Hall and a freshman in college studying Early Childhood Education. She has worked in Heathwood's Summer Camps as a counselor for three years and is excited to be able to join the AE team, too! She loves working at Heathwood because she gets to know the students and watch them learn and grow.

Allison Rashley, Director of Extended Learning & Assistant of Director of Summer Programs |

Allison has a wealth of experience in supporting and leading schools in the Columbia area. Most recently, she served as Assistant Director at Eastminster Day School where she led the afterschool program and coordinated enrichment activities. Allison's enthusiasm for developing engaging programs and fostering relationships with families will be a valuable asset to our team!  

Allison has spent most her life in Columbia, where she has been raising her four children: Andrew (29), Virginia (19), Meredith (17), and Adrian (15). Allison and her husband, Neil, are actively involved with St. Martin’s in the Fields Episcopal Church. Additionally, Allison enjoys participating in the Kanuga Board of Visitors and is the newly elected President the Coralbell Garden Club.


Lydia Padgett Bailey, Interim Assistant Director |

Is a parent of two Highlanders (Bailey, '24 and Liam, '30) and a regular substitute to the Lower School, Lydia knows the Heathwood community well. She brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the Extended Learning team. Lydia is a Licensed Professional Coordinator and serves as a professor at Midlands Technical College. Lydia holds a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology from Clemson University and a Master's of Arts in Psychology from Winthrop University. Lydia has a clear love for Heathwood and we are delighted to have her join our team!
