Heathwood families have long known that our school lunches are a cut above the ordinary. Now, Head Chef/Manager Jim McMahon and his talented team have earned national recognition for the great work they do feeding hundreds of hungry Highlanders each school day.
Chef Jim has just been announced as the 2017 winner of Flik Independent School Dining Regional and National Account of the Year. “Jim’s ability to engage with the Heathwood Hall community has been exemplary and we were proud to acknowledge his achievements,” said Ray Mulligan, President of Flik Independent School Dining.
Winning the award “has been kind of surreal so far,” said Mr. McMahon. “It hasn’t really hit me. It’s great to win, but it’s really the staff who earned it. I have a great staff, and they did the work.”
The award recognizes excellence in achieving Flik’s philosophy of “Nourishing a Brighter Future.” The company, which serves 248 independent schools nationwide, is dedicated to creating fun, healthful, and innovative dining services, with an emphasis on fresh, healthful food, batch cooking, and locally and sustainably sourced ingredients.
For Heathwood students, that means they can always find something good (and healthy) to eat—whether they’re in the mood for a hot meal, a salad, or a Panini—or all of the above.
Kudos to Chef Jim and his team for the award and for all they do to nourish our community in ways that are both delicious and nutricious!
