Heathwood Dining Commons Head Chef Jim McMahon is one of 100 local celebrity chefs who will be cooking and serving some of their favorite dishes at EdVenture’s “100 Men Who Cook For Kids”—a new fundraiser designed to support educational programs for kids and allow Midlands residents to indulge in a day of fabulous eating.
Held on Sunday, May 21, from 6:30-9:30 p.m., the event was conceived by the museum as “a celebration of the culinary creations by men throughout the Midlands” and will feature “elected officials, sports stars, public service professionals and prominent men from the community” showcasing their best recipes throughout the museum.
Participants are also competing for “tips,” with those who earn the most collecting prizes. All proceeds benefit the museum’s Youth Development Programs for students in 7th through 12th grades.
Chef Jim will be facing off against such notables as Columbia Mayor Steve Benjamin, cartoonist Robert Ariail, basketball legend Alex English, Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott, and a number of Heathwood parents, including John Cook, Peter Roney, and James Smith.
