Danny Lewis Named Heathwood Head Football Coach
The Heathwood Hall Athletic Department is excited to announce that Danny Lewis will become Heathwood Hall’s next Head Football Coach.
We are also welcoming Danny back to the Heathwood campus. Danny served very ably as our Strength and Conditioning Coach and an Assistant Varsity Football Coach from 1996-1998. Since then, he has had a long and distinguished record of coaching at the college level, at Newberry, University of South Carolina, The Citadel, Middle Tennessee State, and most recently, South Carolina State, where he is currently the Recruiting Coordinator.
From Head of School Chris Hinchey:
“Danny’s deep experience, knowledge of the game, awareness of the Midlands and South Carolina football community, and proven track record of impacting young people and teaching character through athletics made him an attractive candidate. I am excited to watch him get to work with our players this spring.”
From Heathwood Head Coach Danny Lewis: “My first experience with Heathwood football ignited my passion to coach and fueled my love of the game. It was here that I learned to balance the demands of academic achievement with the challenges of athletic success. All of those lessons served me well over the course of a 20-year college coaching career. Now I am blessed to return to Heathwood Hall as Head Football Coach. Our mission will be to build a football program worthy of the high standards set by the school. Commitment to being physically strong and mentally tough, and the drive to play at a high level will be the foundation of our team. Our success will rely on the combined efforts of each individual associated with the program. I am excited about the future and look forward to being a part of the Heathwood community.”
From Heathwood Hall Athletic Director, Jeff Whalen: “We are extremely excited to welcome Danny Lewis to Heathwood Hall as our new football coach. Danny has many years of coaching experience in South Carolina, and he also is familiar with Heathwood football having worked under John Daye in our program in the past. Danny brings a wealth of knowledge to our program that will benefit our student athletes on the field, but also has the experience and background to help our athletes move onto the collegiate level as student athletes.”
Lewis will replace Marcus Lattimore, who left at the conclusion of the 2017 season to return to his alma mater, the University of South Carolina.
Lewis was introduced to the Heathwood community with a program introduction meeting on Friday, February 23rd.
