Deck the Hall Race Celebrates the Season, Supports Two Great Causes
More than 240 people participated in this year's Deck the Hall 5K/2k and Kids' Fun Run and Reindeer Games, held on Saturday, December 1 on Heathwood's cross country course and Stadium Field.
The race raised more than $5000, which will benefit Camp Cole and Rural Mission, Inc. Some 40 student volunteers helped with everything from social media to course set-up to running the reindeer games.
Deck the Hall is unique among Midlands 5Ks in that it is a trail race rather than a road race, which makes it ideal both for serious runners and for those who just want to come out and walk their dogs, take in the wooded scenery, and get into the Christmas spirit. The event is also very kid-friendly, with higher than usual numbers of young entrants running in the 5K, as well as a 2K race, a 400-meter fun run, and a series of Reindeer Games all designed for children. A costume contest for participants of all ages also makes the race one of the most festive events of the holiday season.
