Four Heathwood Students Named National Merit Semifinalists
Jack Cook, Charlotte Hughes, Serena Parmar, and Nico Adamo have all been named 2020 National Merit Semifinalists. Jack, Charlotte, and Serena are all seniors this year, while Nico finished up his graduation requirements early and matriculated at Cal Tech earlier this fall.
Students earn National Merit recognition by achieving exceptionally high scores on the PSAT in their junior year. Among some 1.5 million students taking the PSAT each year, the top 16,000 are named National Merit Semifinalists.
Jack, Charlotte, Serena, and Nico join 89 Heathwood alumni who have been named National Merit Semifinalists since the school graduated its first class in 1977. They are the largest group of Semifinalists at any Columbia-area independent school this year, and the second-largest group at any Midlands school.
"We are proud of our semifinalists," said Upper School Head Dr. George Scouten. "And while this year's National Merit Semifinalists are exceptional in a whole host of ways that transcend performance on a standardized test, I am so pleased for them that they receive this recognition. They really are an outstanding group of students, and they represent Heathwood well."
