Gamecock Athletes Share Advice with Heathwood Middle Schoolers

Four University of South Carolina Gamecocks--including two Heathwood alumnae--came to Middle School Town Hall on November 27 and shared advice about how to succeed in school and life.

The visiting athletes were Heathwood alumnae Savannah Hillmeyer, '17, a current member of the USC Swim Team; and Grace Smith, '13, former soccer goalie for William & Mary, who is currently pursuing a Masters in Sports Management at USC; along with USC Swimmer Jenna Pehowski and graduate student Chase Brennan, who wrestled at the University of Missouri as an undergrad.

The advice the athletes shared included:

--Surround yourself with good people

--Get involved in your school community

--Set goals

--Be where your feet are!

--Be tough - put your best into everything that you do.

--Build the best version of yourself each day.

--Everyone is valuable.  Everyone can contribute.  Everyone has a role.

--Don’t worry so much.

--Don’t be so hard on yourself.

--Be resilient.  Work hard, keep the right frame of mind, and look at what you have accomplished.

--Take responsibility for what you do.

--Produce a good product by taking your time to create.

--Don’t procrastinate!

--Service helps others.
