Heathwood's Girls Track & Field team turned in a fantastic all-around team performance and won the SCISA AAA Region I title on Wednesday at Porter Gaud. It was the 8th consecutive year that the Highlanders won the regional meet.
The Lady Highlanders were paced by 7th graders Jais Ward and Laela Caplinger. Ward finished in 1st place in the 3200 meter run, the 1600 meter run and the 800 meter run while Caplinger finished in 2nd place in the 1600 meter run and the 800 meter run and anchored the 1st place 4 x 800 meter relay.
Additional Highlander Highlights include a 1st place finish in the high jump by Janie Hicks, a 1stand 2nd place finish in the pole vault by Lexi Singletary and Pamela Ann Pope, 2nd place finishes by Brooklyn Moore (400 meter run) and Hanna Jacobson(2nd - Shot Put and 3rd - Discus), Catherine Barron (3rd - 3200 and 4th - 800), Morgan Goodwin (3rd - 200 meter dash and 5th-100 meter dash), Taylor Washington (3rd - 400), Jazzy Frierson (4th - 200 meter dash), Mela Gisewhite (5th - 3200 meter run), Faith Robertson (4th - 100 meter hurdles & 5th Triple Jump), Jasmine Jones (5th - 100 meter hurdles), Hannah Coetsee (4th – 400 meter hurdles), Lexi Colwell (5th – Discus), and Clara Wilson (3rd place – High Jump). We also benefitted greatly from our relay performances. The 4 x 400 relay (Hicks, Washington, Coetsee, Moore) and the 4 x 800 relay (Washington, Barron, Coetsee, Caplinger) finished in 1st place, while the 4 x 100 meter relay (Goodwin, Moore, Frierson, Mia Singerling) finished in 4th place.

The team will next compete in the SCISA State Track & Field Championship scheduled for Saturday, May 4th at Porter Gaud School in Charleston, SC, where they will defend their 2018 and 2017 State Championships.
