Heathwood kindergarteners and their families spent the evening of February 7 learning about light in the most hands-on ways possible at their annual Lights at Night event.
Lights at Night is an evening of exploration with lights and shadows through a variety of activities. The event was the culmination of a brief unit of study on lights and shadows. More importantly, said kindergarten teacher Frances Shainwald, it provided an opportunity for children to experiment and discover with different uses of light.
The event included a black light room with many opportunities for sensory play, as well as a room for general exploration - light tables with various manipulatives, shadow puppets, light-up toys and games, and more. Families also enjoedy a picnic before the event in the center of the LS pods, which was lit up by white lights, lanterns, and luminaries.
