Molly's Garden Dedicated in Memory of Longtime Teacher Molly Roddey
When longtime Heathwood Early Childhood Teacher Molly Roddey passed away in 2020, she left behind a legacy of sparking a love of nature in a generation of Heathwood students. On May 14, 2021, we honored Molly’s life and legacy with the dedication of Molly’s Garden, a space beside the Early Childhood building where students can continue to find the same joy in watching plants grow and blossom that Molly shared so generously.
At the dedication ceremony, SC Representative Seth Rose presented Molly’s daughter, Elizabeth Roddey, with a House Resolution he and Rep. Todd Rutherford sponsored to honor the life of Molly Roddey. The resolution was passed by the SC House of Representatives on March 4, 2020.
Molly’s Garden was funded by gifts to Molly’s memorial fund and created through the work of Heathwood parent Stephanie Kimbrough and the Heathwood Grounds Crew. Materials were also donated by Lisa Bauer and Brian Saylor.
“Molly was a vibrant and dynamic part of our Early Childhood community for nearly seventeen years and left a permanent mark on the hearts of everyone she taught and worked with,” said Head of Early Childhood and Lower School Stephanie Scanlon. “We are so happy to be able to remember her in such a perfect way on such an appropriate day.”
