Nasir Signs With South Carolina

Heathwood senior Maryah Nasir has signed to run cross country and track at the University of South Carolina.

The signing caps off Maryah’s stellar career as a Highlander. In three years of competing for Heathwood, she:

- Was 3-time SCISA AAA State Individual Cross Country Champion and 3-time SCISA AAA State Team Cross Country Champion

- Was named 2016 Midlands Runner of the Year (The State Newspaper)

- Won 18 events

- Became the 1st girl in over 15 years to win the "Distance Triple" in consecutive seasons by winning all three distance events at the SCISA AAA State Track Meet

- Became the 1st SCISA girl to ever win the 800m & 1 mile at the Coaches Classic in the same year

- Helped lead the Highlanders to the 2017 SCISA AAA Track & Field State Championship

- Was named 2017 HSSR (High School Sports Report) AAA State Runner of the Year

- Won gold medals in the 800m & 1500m in the 2017 Junior Olympic Regionals in Florida

An outstanding all-around student-athlete, Nasir is a member of the National Honor Society and is also known for her vocal and dramatic talent. She won the Talent competition (singing) at the 2016 Appalachian State Cross Country Camp and is one of the featured students in a new video about Heathwood’s athletics program. (

Maryah joins Heathwood alums A’ja Wilson, ’14 (basketball) and Savannah Hillmeyer, ’17 (swimming) as Highlanders who have recently gone on to become Gamecocks.
