Thank You to All Who Made the 36th Annual Auction a Huge Success!

Heathwood’s 36th Annual Auction: Lights, Camera, Auction on March 14 was scheduled to take place in a new exciting venue with every detail of the evening planned to maximize community spirit and fundraising. This annual tradition has raised more than $3.5 million dollars to directly benefit thousands of Heathwood students, numerous dedicated faculty members, and Heathwood programs. When the threat of COVID-19 caused us to consider canceling this event, the thought of endless hours from deeply committed volunteers, missing out on the opportunity to have fun and celebrate as a community, and the potential loss of essential funding made it an extremely difficult call. With the rapid changes in circumstances and so many uncertainties, plus the need to put the health and safety of our families first, we realized the event could not happen as it had for the last 35 years.

The decision was made the morning of the auction to cancel the gathering, but move forward with the Silent Auction and Fund the Need. The series of events that followed was inspiring! Staff and volunteers mobilized in an amazing way, communicating the change to all involved, safely packing hundreds of auction items and decorations to return to Heathwood, making new plans to create an exciting virtual event, and doing whatever had to be done for the school they love! That evening, the Heathwood community rallied and started bidding it all for the Hall! The energy, excitement, generosity and commitment to making this night a success was phenomenal.

As a result, we raised $75,680 during this year’s Online Silent Auction, almost 20% more than last year’s Silent Auction. Total dollars raised in Sponsorships, Advertisements, Lunch Raffle and Ticket Parties also exceeded last year’s totals. Additionally, during the event and days following we met the $20,000 goal for the Fund the Need to support Audio/Visual upgrades to the Rainey-Belser Auditorium.

We are grateful to Jenny Brown, 2020 Auction Chair, for her motivation, persistence, and execution of new ideas that positively impacted the success of the auction. We could not pull the event off without an army of volunteers giving time and making contributions in different ways. Our sponsors, advertisers, and auction item donors are the ones that really make it all possible, and we express sincere gratitude to the hundreds in this category that give each year. And, a big thanks to everyone who participated in the event!

Please take a moment to look at this list of committee members, sponsors, advertisers, and donors and help Heathwood express gratitude. Thank a volunteer when you see them, consider take-out dinner from the restaurants and make an effort to support all the local businesses that sponsor and contribute each year. The 36th Annual Auction was different in many ways. One thing that did not change was the way our community came together to show exceptional support for this cause that matters to all of us.
