Turkey Trot Raises Record-Breaking $17,135 for Harvest Hope
This year's Middle School Turkey Trot has brought in $17,135 and counting--a new record for an event that's raised more than $160,000 in its 14-year history.
All funds raised through the Turkey Trot are donated to Harvest Hope Food Bank. This year's donation will provide tens of thousands of meals at a time of particularly critical need.
Held each year on the Tuesday before Thanksgiving, the Turkey Trot brings together all Middle School students and teachers--along with some special guests from Early Childhood and the Lower School--to walk (or run or dance) Heathwood's track in support of a great cause. Middle School students solicit donations from family and friends with a goal of raising $14,000--a goal that's been surpassed for the last several years and that was shattered this year.
"The Turkey Trot fosters our tradition of gratitude in our students and our families," said Middle School Dean of Students Rich Edwards. "The kids and their families believe in our cause to help Harvest Hope Food Bank, and each year’s giving serves as a testament to our MS community. Regardless of the grade level, the students enjoy the month of November building up to our Turkey Trot."
