Concerned about your children’s social media habits? Or about their ability to handle the pressures of an increasingly fast-paced world? Two experts will visit Heathwood on October 30 and November 6 to offer advice on those issues, and all Midlands parents, regardless of Heathwood affiliation, are invited to attend.
On Monday, October 30th @ 6:30 p.m., Laura Tierney, founder and president of The Social Institute (https://thesocialinstitute.com/about/leadership/) will be speaking to parents in the Heathwood Hall Dining Commons from 6:30 – 8:00 p.m. about how you can help your children handle social media in a positive manner by reinforcing character and leadership strengths like empathy, integrity, and teamwork.

On the following Monday, November 6th, Claudia Guignard, counselor & parent coach, will be speaking in the Heathwood Hall Dining Commons from 6:30 - 7:30 p.m. and will provide expert advice and observations about parenting in a talk titled “Self-Regulating Tactics: helping kids to cope in a fast-paced world.” We are also scheduling in time for significant Q & A.

Ms. Tierney will also speak with Heathwood’s Upper School and Middle School students during the school day about how to develop and maintain a positive social media presence.
Laura Tierney, former Duke University athlete and social media expert, founded The Social Institute to help schools, parents, and leaders win the game of social media. Laura is presenting to our students and faculty in Upper and Middle School on Monday (10/30) and Tuesday (10/31), but we are excited to offer an opportunity for you all to hear her advice and get important questions answered.
Laura served as Social Media Director at the advertising agency McKinney, and earlier in her career helped ESPN use social media to launch espnW. She has developed social strategies and campaigns for leading brands including Duke Men’s Basketball, Nike, Under Armour, Disney, Toyota, Travelocity and Oakley.
Claudia Guignard spent more than twenty years of her professional life at Heathwood Hall working with students, parents, and faculty. She is currently in private practice where her focus has been on coaching clients to achieve balance and fulfillment in their private lives, as well as their professional lives. Claudia earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from Emory University, and both a Masters Degree in Educational Psychology and a Specialist Degree in Marriage & Family Therapy from the University of South Carolina.
