Lower School

CREATE A STRONG FOUNDATION FOR SUCCESS IN OUR K-4TH GRADERS

Lower School

Our primary focus is on getting to know each individual child as both a learner and as a person. That philosophy is essential to helping all students become the best versions of themselves, which is why we have a lead and associate teacher in each classroom throughout the Lower School who support the core academic instruction.

Developing Essential 21st-Century Skills

We believe in nurturing confident, joyful learners who are well-prepared—academically, socially, and emotionally—for the journey ahead.

In addition to core academics, students engage in exhibitions of mastery that develop essential 21st-century skills like critical thinking, creativity, and public speaking. They also benefit from regular instruction in art, music, science, Spanish, library, and PE with dedicated specialty teachers.

Middle School

Building Independence Through Academics: A 5th–8th Grade Journey

Middle School

Beginning in 5th grade, Middle School students enter a dynamic academic program where they switch classes, connect with an academic advisor, and participate in athletics and performing arts. We focus on developing the academic, social, and emotional skills essential for future success, balancing rigorous coursework with time for outdoor exploration and personal passions. At Heathwood, we nurture the whole child—helping students grow in an environment of accountability, compassion, and meaningful challenge beyond test scores and grades.

Developing & Sparking a Passion for Inquiry

Academic challenge is a major priority in the Middle School, but that rigor is kept in proportion with the goal of helping the whole child mature and thrive.
