The Heathwood Hall Approach
Creative Writing
From the time they learn to write, Heathwood students express themselves through the written word. Because learning to write well is a norm at Heathwood, students feel free to explore their own creativity through both curricular and co-curricular writing projects.
Lower & Middle School
The Lower and Middle Schools also incorporate creative writing into the curriculum and special projects. The Lower School’s literary magazine, Creations, showcases poetry, short stories, and artwork by young authors.
Upper School
In the Upper School, our students’ writing has been published in national anthologies and local newspapers, and many have won national essay contests. The faculty’s encouragement of creative self-expression and dedication to individual mentoring have helped students receive such honors as the prestigious Thomas Wolfe Scholarship in Creative Writing at The University of North Carolina.
The Palette, Heathwood Hall’s Upper School literary magazine, publishes quality student writing and art, while also providing opportunities for students to develop and refine their editing skills.
