Inspiring a Lifelong Love of Reading and Research

Heathwood Hall’s Dorothy and Chalmers Poston Library supports students, faculty, and families from Early Childhood through 12th Grade with two distinct collections tailored to different developmental stages:

  • Early Childhood & Lower School Library (EC–4th Grade)
  • Middle & Upper School Library (5th–12th Grade)

Together, our libraries house more than 26,000 print and media titles, a wide range of digital databases, and a welcoming environment for exploration, learning, and imagination.

 

📚 Library Resources for Students — Public Resources

Accessible to all Heathwood students; some may require a school email to log in:

  • EC/LS Library Catalog – Search books for Early Childhood and Lower School
  • MS/US Library Catalog – Search titles for Middle and Upper School
  • Sora – Our eBook and audiobook platform (account required)
  • Epic – Free digital reading for EC–4th grade during school hours
  • SC ETV KnowItAll – PreK–college educational media
  • Google Scholar – Find scholarly articles (pair with JSTOR access)
Private Resources

Available only through the library — visit or contact the librarian to learn more:

  • SC DISCUS – Access dozens of state-supported academic databases
  • JSTOR – Peer-reviewed journals and academic publications
  • NewsBank – Search digitized historical and current newspapers
  • The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal – Premium news access for research and learning
🔄 Circulation Policy
  • Books are checked out for three weeks at a time
  • No late fines, but books overdue by two weeks or more will be marked as lost
  • Lost books must be replaced, and a charge will be added to the student’s account
  • MS/US students can log into their library accounts to track checkouts
  • EC/LS parents can email libraries@heathwood.org for a list of their child's books

Middle & Upper School Library
  • 14,000+ titles, plus access to the Overdrive e-book consortium
  • 58 periodical subscriptions and 38 research databases
  • Designed for individual, small group, and class use
  • Open all day for quiet study, research, and reading

Monday – Thursday: 7:45 AM – 4:00 PM
Friday: 7:45 AM – 3:30 PM

Whether a student is discovering picture books, researching for a senior project, or looking for their next favorite novel, the Poston Library is a cornerstone of intellectual curiosity and academic growth at Heathwood Hall.
