The Heathwood Hall Approach
Senior Exhibition
For Upper School Students
At Heathwood Hall, we believe in cultivating not only strong academic skills but also the intellectual independence and curiosity that fuel lifelong learning. One of the capstone experiences of our Upper School is the Senior Exhibition, a yearlong academic project that challenges students to dive deep into a topic of personal passion and produce a body of original work.
A Year of Discovery and Mastery
Each senior selects a topic of significant interest—something that excites, challenges, or inspires them—and explores it in depth over the course of their final year. With support from a committee that includes two Heathwood faculty members and one outside expert in the field, students engage in:
- Scholarly Research
Crafting a substantive research paper or combining research with a creative or practical product. - Mentorship
Working closely with a dedicated team of mentors who guide and challenge them throughout the process. - Public Presentation
Culminating in the Senior Symposium, where students present their findings in a public forum attended by the Heathwood community, family, and invited guests.
Purpose and Impact
The Senior Exhibition is more than an academic requirement—it’s a defining moment in the Heathwood experience. Students demonstrate not only subject mastery, but also confidence in public speaking, critical thinking, and the ability to manage a major project from start to finish.
Successful completion of the Senior Exhibition is required for graduation and serves as a powerful bridge between high school and the more independent academic life of college.
