The Heathwood Hall Approach

Technology Resources

Instructional Technology

At Heathwood Hall, we believe technology—when used thoughtfully—can be a powerful tool for learning. As a 1:1 school for students in grades 1–12, each student is equipped with an iPad or laptop to support personalized, hands-on learning that is age-appropriate and pedagogically sound.

We also prioritize digital citizenship, helping students develop the skills and ethics to navigate digital spaces with the same integrity and care they would in person.

Lower School

In the Lower School, we balance technology use with active, hands-on learning. Students in grades 1–4 participate in a 1:1 iPad program that began in 2019 in grades 3 and 4 and has since expanded. iPads are used to enhance instruction in meaningful, developmentally appropriate ways, while teachers continue to prioritize play, creativity, and collaborative learning.

Middle School

Middle School students (grades 5–8) use iPads to collaborate, create, and deepen their learning. From interactive math tools to digital note-taking with Logitech Crayons, students gain fluency in both academic content and technology skills. Heathwood has been a Google for Education school for over seven years, with infrastructure and training that empower students and teachers alike to use tech meaningfully in the classroom.

Upper School

Technology has been part of the Upper School experience for over 30 years. Our 1:1 laptop program, launched eight years ago, is part of a broader digital learning ecosystem that includes cloud-based tools, online research databases, and professional development for faculty. Students also have opportunities to explore tech-focused courses such as computer science and graphic design, building skills for college and beyond.

Digital Citizenship

We teach students to be engaged, ethical, and thoughtful digital citizens through a framework built around seven essential habits:

  • Be present
  • Be real
  • Manners matter
  • There is no delete
  • Nothing is private
  • Protect yourself
  • Credit others

These principles guide our students in developing healthy, respectful digital behaviors and using technology responsibly—now and into the future.
