“Earn the View”: Girls Cross Country Claims Fifth Consecutive State Title

Hard work, determination, and grit defined Heathwood Hall’s girls cross country team this season—and it all came together on Saturday, November 1, as they captured their fifth consecutive state championship.

The journey wasn’t easy. Injuries, mostly growth-related, often kept the top five runners from competing together at the same meets, testing both the athletes’ resilience and the coaching staff’s strategy. Yet, despite these challenges, the girls never lost focus. They stayed positive, pushed through adversity, and entered the state meet with confidence, fueled by a season of victories whenever their top runners competed.

The payoff was remarkable: six of the seven runners posted either season-best or personal-best times at the state meet, delivering when it mattered most.

This title is a testament to the incredible commitment and heart of these young athletes,” said Willis Ware, head coach of the girls cross country team. “Every practice, every early morning run, every setback—these girls earned every step of this championship. Five in a row is a milestone that speaks to their consistency, teamwork, and belief in our program.”

The achievement adds another chapter to a program that has steadily grown over the past 15 years. Since 2011, Heathwood has produced nine individual state champions and six team titles, but the 2021–2025 run marks an unprecedented period of success. The program’s motto, “Earn the View,” reflects the climb to this historic summit—five consecutive state titles, an accomplishment unmatched in the school’s history.

From the early foundation laid in 2004 to the rise of individual champions between 2015 and 2020, the girls cross country program has consistently nurtured talent, resilience, and a championship mindset. This latest triumph establishes Heathwood as one of the state’s premier girls cross country programs across both private and public schools.

Congratulations to the Heathwood Hall Girls Cross Country team on an extraordinary season and a well-earned victory.
