Lower School Closes the Year with Celebration, Spirit, and Honors

Celebrating Community and Character: Final Lower School Town Hall

On Friday, May 16, Heathwood Hall’s Lower School gathered for the final Town Hall of the 2024–2025 academic year—an event filled with joy, reflection, and a strong sense of community. These monthly assemblies are a cherished tradition at Heathwood, offering students the opportunity to celebrate one another, recognize achievements, and reflect on the values that define their school experience.

As the school year draws to a close, this final Town Hall held particular meaning. In addition to the usual festivities, several students were honored for their outstanding character, leadership, and embodiment of Heathwood’s core values.

Spirit of the Highlander Award

A highlight of the event was the presentation of the Spirit of the Highlander Award, an honor bestowed annually on two fourth-grade students who exemplify what it means to be a true Heathwood Highlander. Selected by the Lower School faculty, these students consistently demonstrate kindness, leadership, integrity, and a deep commitment to their school community.

2025 Spirit of the Highlander Award Recipients:

  • Grace Amick
  • Tripp Jones

Both Grace and Tripp have earned the admiration of peers and teachers alike through their compassion, enthusiasm, and everyday excellence.

The Kinard Cup

Another meaningful moment came with the presentation of the Kinard Cup, named in memory of former student James McNease Kinard, whose vibrant spirit and character continue to inspire the Heathwood community. The Kinard Cup is awarded to a student who embodies the heart of the Heathwood mission: a hard worker, an eager learner, and a true friend.

2025 Kinard Cup Recipient:

  • Danijela Paluszkiewicz

Known for her positive attitude, strong work ethic, and unwavering kindness, Danijela exemplifies the values at the core of Heathwood’s mission.

As the academic year concludes, these awards serve as a powerful reminder of what matters most at Heathwood Hall—not just academic achievement, but also spirit, kindness, and character.

Congratulations to Grace, Tripp, and Danijela for inspiring the entire community with their example.
