Drivers Academy
Heathwood Hall is proud to partner with the South Carolina National Safety Council – Southeastern Chapter to offer eligible students a comprehensive Driving Academy.
This program provides an introduction to motor vehicles and South Carolina traffic laws, with a strong emphasis on safety. Students will gain valuable knowledge and skills through:
Classroom instruction (8 hours) – covering driver disposition, road conditions, speed, crash risks, and more
Behind-the-wheel training (6 hours) – including parallel parking, three-point turns, railroad crossings, and rural, city, and interstate driving
SCDMV-approved driving test (included)
Lunch during the 8-hour class
Cost: $425 (all-inclusive)
Upcoming Training Date: Saturday, September 20, 2025 and Friday, December 19, 2025
Prerequisites:
Beginner’s Permit – Students may test for a permit at age 15 and must hold it for 180 days before taking the road test. While you may register for Driving Academy any time after you receive your permit, we recommend students complete the program closer to their eligibility date for the road test. This will ensure the information and practice they receive during the course are still fresh when it is time to take their road test.
Practice Requirement – SC law requires 40 practice hours with a parent/guardian/responsible adult (25+), including 10 nighttime hours.
