Heathwood Afternoon ExpressAfternoon Express (AE) serves students in the Early Childhood and Lower School divisions. AE teachers provide after school snacks, support homework, and engage students in meaningful games and activities that complement the curricular goals of the school day.

Early Morning (7:30 AM – 8:00 AM)

Children two years old through 4th grade who arrive on campus before 8:00 AM must report to Early Morning Express. This service is free of charge and is supervised by Heathwood teachers. Students in Early Morning Express have an opportunity to play, read and get ready for their school day. Please contact Talisa Sadler for more details.

Afternoon Express (until 6:00 PM)

Afternoon Express begins at the conclusion of the academic day and is open until 6:00 PM. It provides a time for children to relax, play, and receive general support with homework.  Each day, we provide a snack for students, as well as outdoor recess and time to enjoy nature.

Days of Operation

Afternoon Express operates after school on normal school days. When the school is closed, Afternoon Express is also closed.

Afternoon Express Schedule 2022-2023

Plans and Rates

Students may enroll in Afternoon Express on a drop-in basis or on regular weekly schedule. Fees are billed monthly based on participation in the program.  The Afternoon Express Fees include a $35/child annual registration fee, plus one of these options:

2022-2023 Year-Round Care: $5,640

The Year-Round Care plan is our most comprehensive plan. It includes Afternoon Express (or "The Thought Studio" for Middle School students), childcare on conference and in-service days, as well as a $2,135 credit to be used for Summer Camps. Enrollment in this plan must be completed prior to Summer Camps during enrollment for the general school year.

2022-2023 Academic Year: $3,000

The Academic Year plan covers childcare every afternoon for regular school days and noon-dismissal days. Please note that this plan does not include in-service and conference days as space is limited and hours are extended. If space is available on these days, students may sign up and families will be billed the hourly drop-in rate for their attendance.

2022-2023 Drop-In Plan: $12 per hour billed at the beginning of each hour

The Drop-In plan is designed for families who use Afternoon Express infrequently (one or two days a week) or for a short period each day.
