Fulbright Takes Dr. Browder to Japan

Early Childhood and Lower School Science Teacher Dr. Jamie Browder spent part of this summer in Japan, where he was invited to share some of the innovative work he's doing at Heathwood with Japanese teachers.

His trip was sponsored by the State Department's Fulbright Program. The goal was to bring together teachers from both the U.S. and Japan who have excelled at integrating sustainability in their classrooms, so that they could share ideas and best practices. Ten teachers from each country took part.

Visiting Tokyo, Hamamatsu City, and Mishima City, Dr. Browder shared the vision for Heathwood's Greenhouse and Edible Forest and toured schools across Japan, learning about partnerships they have developed with local industries and how those relationships have impacted teaching practices and student outcomes.
