Lower School Closes the Year with Celebration, Spirit, and Honors

On Friday, May 16, Heathwood Hall’s Lower School students came together for their final Town Hall of the school year—an event marked by joy, reflection, and community. The monthly Town Hall gatherings have long been a beloved tradition, offering students a chance to recognize accomplishments, celebrate classmates, and share in the spirit that defines the Heathwood experience.

As the 2024–2025 academic year draws to a close, the final Town Hall carried special significance. In addition to the usual fun and festivities, several students were honored for their character, leadership, and embodiment of Heathwood’s core values.

Spirit of The Highlander Award

A highlight of the event was the presentation of the 2025 Spirit of The Highlander Award, an honor bestowed annually upon two fourth-grade students who exemplify what it means to be a well-rounded Heathwood Highlander. Selected by the Lower School faculty, these students demonstrate kindness, leadership, integrity, and a consistent commitment to their school community.

This year’s recipients of the Spirit of The Highlander Award are:

  • Grace Amick
  • Tripp Jones

Both students have distinguished themselves through their compassion, enthusiasm, and everyday excellence—earning the respect of their peers and teachers alike.

The Kinard Cup

Another moment of reflection came with the presentation of the Kinard Cup, named in memory of the late James McNease Kinard, a former Heathwood student remembered for his vibrant spirit and character. This meaningful award honors a student who embodies the heart of the Heathwood mission: someone who is a hard worker, an eager learner, and a true friend.

This year’s Kinard Cup was presented to:

  • Danijela Paluszkiewicz

Known for her positive attitude, strong work ethic, and unwavering kindness, Danijela represents the very best of the Heathwood community.

As the school year concludes, these awards serve as a meaningful reminder of the values that shape our students—not only academic achievement, but also spirit, kindness, and character. Congratulations to Grace, Tripp, and Danijela for inspiring us all.
