Matthew Black Awarded Columbia Rotary Scholarship, Honors Teacher Bryce Bancroft

Each year, the Columbia Rotary Club awards two deserving students $20,000 scholarships for post-secondary study at any college or university in the country. These scholarships recognize students who have distinguished themselves through academic curiosity, community commitment—typically through volunteer service—and often athletic excellence. Financial need is also a key consideration.
To be eligible, students must interview with a panel from the Rotarian Scholarship Committee, who ultimately select the recipients.
This year, Matthew Black, who will attend Duke University in the fall, was named one of the two scholarship winners from the Columbia area. As part of the recognition, each recipient is invited to name a teacher who has made a significant impact on their life and education.
Matthew chose to honor Mr. Bryce Bancroft, his Latin teacher and advisor of four years. Mr. Bancroft was a steady support for Matthew—keeping him on track as both a teacher and mentor—and helped spark his love of Latin poetry.
Congratulations to Matthew Black and Mr. Bryce Bancroft on this well-deserved recognition.
